I. Introduction

Hainan Normal University (HNU) is located in Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province, which is a beautiful coastal tourist city and a famous national historical and cultural city. Founded in the autumn of 1949, It is a key jointly-built university by China’s Ministry of Education and Hainan Province and is among the first batch of colleges and universities approved by the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the CPC to jointly build a school of journalism. It is also an important training base for outstanding teachers and senior professionals in Hainan province and is reputed as “a famous university in Hainan and a cradle for teachers”.

The university has more than 20,000 full-time students, 25 schools, 67 undergraduate programs, 18 first-level master's degree programs, 17 master's degree programs, and 5 first-level doctoral degree programs. The university has 2,200 faculty members, including 1361 full-time teachers and researchers, and 649 teachers with senior professional titles.

The university started to enroll international students in 1988. Now it is one of the first universities approved to admit international students by State Education Commission, and one of the first Chinese education bases established by Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council,established a joint Confucius Institute with Malaysia's Sysmatic Education Group International（SEGI）. The university provides Chinese Government Scholarship, Confucius Institute Scholarship, Hainan Government Scholarship and Hainan Overseas Chinese Language and Culture Education Scholarship for international students. The university is the Southeast Asian Teachers’ Training Base for Promotion of Chinese, under the approval of Confucius Institute Headquarters / Hanban, the site for HSK in Hainan, and has been awarded by Hainan Provincial Department of Education to the Preparatory Education School for Hainan international students.

At present, the university has undertaken academic exchanges with over 100 universities and education institutions in 60 countries, established sister relationship with 82 foreign universities and education institutions such as University of Hawaii of the United States, The University of Chester of Britain,University of Barterboldt of Germany, Hiroshima University of Japan ,and cooperated with 10 universities in cultivation of talents such as St. Petersburg National Film and Television University of Russia, DePaul University of the United States,Hiroshima University of Japan, and the Indian National Institute of Information Technology.

II. Strengths of the University

1. Complete Facilities

Hainan Normal University accommodates two campuses—the South Longkun Road campus and the Guilinyang campus, covering an area of 2,066,666 square meters (3,100 mu). There are 3 key laboratories founded by the Ministry of Education, 3 national and regional research bases at the ministerial level, 8 Provincial key laboratories, 4 engineering centers, 13 key research bases of humanities and social sciences, 1 international-joint research center, 1 key new type think tank, 4 field scientific observation and research stations, and 2 natural science bases.

With multi-media classrooms, a students’ reading room, a language lab, a multi-media lecture hall, and an HSK network exam classroom, the building for Chinese language teaching occupies 3,500 square meters.

4. Convenient Transportation

In Hainan, there are 3 airports, Meilan International Airport in Haikou Boao Airport in Qionghai and Phoenix International Airport in Sanya, offering 440 international and domestic routes. It boasts Cross-sea Railway, high-speed railway around Hainan island. Besides, Haikou is also adjacent to Hong Kong, Macao and Guangzhou, each of which is within 50 minutes of flight.

V. Session Period

Hainan Normal University offers spring and autumn sessions. Generally, the former lasts from March to July and the latter from September to January of next year. 

1.Students of non-diploma education: those with some basic of Chinese can apply for admission anytime and will be arranged into a certain class according to his/her performance in a test and an interview. Beginners of Chinese cannot be admitted anytime.

2. Upload required documents online. 

3. Submit the application and confirm whether it was submitted successfully. Applicants should check the information and materials carefully and click "Submit" button, and call the International Student Admission Department of our University to confirm whether the application form has been submitted successfully. 

4. Examination of qualification. Your qualification for any program will be examined online. Once approved, you will receive a letter of admission.

5. Payment of tuition. 6. Visa application. The University will help you to apply for your visa to China (Form JW202). Once approved, we will send you the original copy.

 7. Visa formalities. You shall finish the visa formalities with the letter of admission, Form JW202, physical examination certificate and passport in the Chinese embassy or Chinese general consulate in your country. 

8. Registration. Please come to the University for registration with the letter of admission, passport and eight passport photos, and pay the accommodation fee and other charges. 

VII. Scholarships

1. Chinese Government Scholarship

Chinese Government Scholarship is classified into bachelor scholarship, master scholarship, doctor scholarship, Chinese language student scholarship, general student scholarship and advanced student scholarship. The applicant can apply for this scholarship to the international student organization agency, Chinese embassy or consulate

2. International Chinese LanguageTeachers Scholarship 

The category of scholarship includes Scholarship for Students of Master's Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages（MTCSOL）, Scholarship for Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BTCSOL) , Scholarship for One-Academic-Year Students and Scholarship for One-Semester Students. You can apply for this scholarship to the International student Admission office of School of International Education, Hainan Normal University . 

The deadline for application is May 15th (Admission time is September), November 15th (Admission time is March).

3. Hainan Government International Student Scholarship

Hainan Government International Student Scholarship is classified into bachelor scholarship, master scholarship and doctoral scholarship.
